Everyone loves Titus

By
Real Estate Agent with First Team Estates

This is my dog Titus.     Well, and me.

He has humbled me from the moment he came home with us.   I may think that my clients love me and appreciate me for the hours of research I do for their every market report, or for the additional time I take to painstakingly stage their homes in order to get the perfect photos for their collateral marketing.  But after one walk down the street, during which three different cars pull over to ask about that "amazing dog", I am jerked back to face the reality that he is far more appreciated than I will ever be.  I will always be "that Realtor with the gorgeous Blue Great Dane".

There are worse fates than this.

My out of town buyers are always terrific about scheduling time with me well before they arrive.  During these phone calls there is inevitably that last timid request before we say our goodbyes....  "Oh yes, and the kids would like to know if Titus will be there..."   Awkward.  Yet there it is.  He has become more important than I am to their plans.  I suppose that's to be expected.

I have decided to take it as a compliment that my clients do not mind the slobber or the commotion caused by a dog who outweighs at last half of them.  Their kids are always wild with joy to see him.  And amazingly, no one ever thinks my car smells like a dog.  Either our auto detailer is a wizard, or Titus wields olfactory magic that I really need to bottle and sell...

At the end of the day, when the escrow docs come out with the wrong address on them, or the fax machine just won't work when the $1.2 million offer is coming in, or my buyers have decided that their lowball offer that I spent days of tap dancing to get leveraged to the top of the stack isn't quite what they wanted after all - there is always "Titus Maximous".  He will always let me know when I have been a superior human being.

When this majestic beast lays his enormous head on my lap and worships me with his steel grey eyes, I know that there is order in the universe and I will live to fight another day.

I hope you all have a Titus of your own.  If not - here is mine to share.  Be well.
