One of New Orleans own inventions is the snow-ball which is enjoyed by young and old. New Orleans has several really hot months so a taste of snow in the summer really hits the spot. it is not really snow but shaved block ice put into a paper cone. You have a choice of about 100 flavors buttersctch, watermellon, cherry, tutti fruiti or any combination of flavoring you would like. In the last 15 years cream has been added so you can combine that with any flavor. There are no snow-ball chains that I know of, as it is a neighborhood thing. There will always be lines of people waiting in the early evening hours for their taste of winter. You have to eat them in the street as there are few stands with seats. Have you ever had a Sno-ball?
Eric,
I love snow balls too :) those are my favorites since child.

Unfortunately for me in Long Island, we do not have any. I grew up in the city and in many neighborhoods you could find push cart vendors selling them during the summer months. Whenever I'm passing by one in the summer I try to buy one. The difficulty is finding an unoccupied parking space nearby.
You can buy an ice shaving machine at some Asian stores pretty cheap.
Wedding cake...necterine...dreamcicle...pina colada...mmm!
What an evil little post, Eric, now that it's October 1st and all the snowball stands are closed here!! Ah well, I guess I'll have to move on to hot chocolate for the winter! ;-)
Now you're just making me hungry! I love shrimp the best. That's probably one of my favorite foods. Fortunately, I won't have to wait 'til next year for a po-boy!
Have you ever been to Old Tyme Grocery in Lafayette? They have a good po-boy. They're pretty big, too. I always get half of one, and I still throw some of it away. I love that place.
