Positive Ability - It's not just a mindset, it's a way of life.
As I was shuttling laundry to the utility room and fussing at the dogs about shedding I caught my mind wandering off without me. (That happens a lot ... and those that know me know that it's just who I am) Anyway ... I found myself humming a tune that I had not thought about for probably 40 years or more.
As I was humming to myself I started thinking ... the lyrics were really quite inspiring. And for a song that was popular in the early - mid 1940s ... I would guess that makes these lyrics timeless.
The country was involved in World War II, there was devastation being broadcast on every radio, and people were just not sure what tomorrow was going to bring. Think about it ... it's not much different today. Maybe with different causal factors, or perhaps a more sophisticated (or so we think) method of broadcasting the news, but the fact remains ... the American people were being subliminally influenced into fostering negative thoughts.
Then ... this song appears. It becomes a daily standard for many at that time. Even in the early 1950s it played regularly on radios and television variety shows.
The lyrics to the chorus go like this:
You've got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between
(*Words and music by Johnny Mercer and Harold Arlen)
Now that I had this little song bouncing around in my head, I thought ...
This might be a GREAT way for people to start their week on a positive note!
So ... here is Bing Crosby singing Accentuate the Positive (and a bonus song ... Don't Fence Me In).
Enjoy it, hum it as you go through you day! Remember that there are things that are timeless ... things
that will carry over from generation to generation. One of those things should be a positive attitude!
