Prescription Drugs - Can't Afford the Drugs You Can't Live Without?

A Pitt County program is offering some help!

The Pitt County Council on Aging is working to identify and assist seniors with limited incomes in applying for the Low Income Subsidy and/or NCRx to help with prescription drug expenses.

Anyone on Medicare can get Medicare prescription drug coverage; those with limited income and resources may also be eligible for Extra Help to pay for Medicare prescription drug plan premiums, annual deductibles, and prescription co-payments. Extra Help is estimated to be worth an average of $3,900 per year, and many people are unaware they qualify.

Anyone on Medicare who has full Medicaid coverage, whose Medicare Part B premium is paid by the state, or who receives SSI benefits is automatically qualified for Extra Help and does not need to complete an application.

Those who do not qualify for the full federal "Extra Help" subsidy may qualify for North Carolina's NCRx Program. The program provides up to $29 per month toward the monthly premium of a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan that participates in NCRx. Staff at the Pitt County Council on Aging can assist with NCRx applications in addition to assisting with applications for Extra Help. Call 752-1717, ext. 10 for more information or to file an application.
