WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES, EVEN THE BEST OF US...... August 3, 2009 - As I pull into the drive way of a sellers home and get out of the car , I'm feeling good about the appointment the sellers and I are about to have regarding the sale of their home. This was a "floor time" call, the first one in months that I've gotten and I was so prepared....so I thought.
I rang the front door bell and waited for what seemed like forever. Once again I rang it but to no avail. At this point I knock loudly and still no one is in sight. I then went to the garage door and back door and realize that there was seemingly no one home. So now I call the seller and she answers with the "oh no....the appointment was for 6:00 o'clock and when you didn't show up we took the kids out to dinner." Well, imagine my surprise.... me who checks everything twice, dots my i's and crosses my t's -how could this be? "I'm so sorry I replied, I thought our appointment was for 6:30!" I do apologize and then ask her for another time to get together. "The seller said, I'll talk to my husband and call you right back she said" ok........so now I'm sitting in the car trying to figure out how I messed up the time and wonder if they'll give me another appointment.
The phone rings and the seller says, "we have an appointment with another Realtor tomorrow night, could you make Wednesday afternoon at 3:30?" Of course I replied, thank you I look forward to meeting with you then. Again....I do apologize for my mistake and said good-bye."
Well now I've got a strike against me and I'm feeling lousy about the mix up. Being late or missing appointments isn't a habit of mine and I'm made at myself for this. Of course I'm hoping they won't hold this against me. I do feel as tho I have to try harder to raise the bar when I meet with them Wednesday to beat out the competition. I'm even more committed to calling and confirming the time of an appointment than ever before after this mix up. This isn't a pity party so I need constructive feed back please.
I'm curious if any of you have any words of wisdom for me.... Any thoughts or ideas you can share please leave me a comment. I need to go in there and look like a confidant business woman on Wednesday instead of the Realtor who goofed and got the appointment time wrong?? H E L P......
