I liked this 'Clunker for Cash' program pretty much except one thing?
I think it could do two things at once and that is always a plus to me. It could get alot of those old gas guzzlin' emission producing auto's off the roads and it could give a welcomed hand up to some folks that might not otherwise get $4,500.00 for their 15 year old car with over 200,000 miles on it. All in all sounded like a pretty good plan but I was wondering. . .
Don't you imagine some of our kids in the military deployed overseas might have clunkers too? You ever been on a military base and seen the kinda cars soldiers keep running? My own kid's got one, (he's stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky), gave it to him new on his 16th birthday, 10 years ago ~ seemed like a good idea at the time, `big ole Red Durango` could seat bout 7 or 8 depending, got about 13 miles to the gallon and had lots of airbags, good engine too! Has driven about 235,000 miles or there abouts but not worth much over a couple hundred dollars now. That $4,500.00 Cash for Clunker Deal sure seemed sweet!
While the program hit the ground running August 1st and is suppose to be over November 1st, and it is one of those 1st come 1st served situations, "How's a kid serving his/her 1st 2nd or 5th deployment in the Middle East say gonna be able to participate in this 'once in a lifetime' opportunity when his/her deployment runs until Sept. Oct. Nov. or March or July"?
Wouldn't you think, what will all these soldiers do for us, we could have figured out a way to extend this opportunity to our Soldiers serving overseas ~ don't cha know some of them would have been real appreciative of a program that gave em' as much as $4,500.00 for their piece of junk cars when they got home from a deployment! Instead of worrying bout how they were gonna get those Clunkers going again when they got back they could have been out shopping for a new car! Talk about a boost to their spirits! Man there is nothing like the smell of a new car ~ just makes you feel good all over!
NOPE NOT A CHANCE! There is absolutely no provision in this program that would allow a soldier serving his country overseas to participate in the program after his deployment ends and he returns to the states!
It's a crying SHAME if you ask me!
