Tuesday Trip - The Big Glen Burnie Carnival
Friday, July 31 marked the opening of the 102nd annual Big Glen Burnie Carnival. The Carnival runs for 7 days (closed on Sundays). The rides begin at 7 pm week days and 6 pm on Saturdays, the Carnival closes down at 11 pm every night.
The Carnival is located on the field behind the Glen Burnie Improvement Association office on Crain Hwy, just off Central Ave. across the street from the Glen Burnie Free Parking Garage. Parking is available in the parking garage and on Baltimore & Annapolis Blvd.
There are over 20 rides for adults and children. Tickets are for sale for $1 each, children's rides are one ticket each and adult rides are three tickets.
The Carnival is sponsored by the Glen Burnie Improvement Association. This is the only fundraiser that the Improvement Association runs every year. The funds raised are used to maintain their building on Crain Hwy. The building's meeting rooms are used for local meetings. The Glen Burnie Improvement Association supports a lot of local groups like the Boy Scouts of America.
There are many food vendors at the Carnival with all kinds of great food, including funnel cake, sausage and peppers, fries, pit beef, pit turkey, pit ham, cotton candy and many other great fair foods. The food vendors are sponsored by local not for profit groups.
There are also some great opportunities for winning some great prizes. The games of chance for children are run by local charities to raise money for their activities. Children almost always win a prize.
You will also have opportunities to purchase tickets for draws on gas cards and a car. These tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.
This is a great place to take the family and enjoy the evening. The rides are inexpensive and so are the food vendors and the proceeds go to support the community.
When you are there don't forget to drop by the Advance Realty office across the street and enter your name into a daily draw for gas or gift cards. There's a new draw daily and there's no cost for you to enter. Advance Realty is located at 5 Crain Hwy on the corner of Crain and Central Ave right across the street from the Carnival.
