Are You Well Grounded Or Are People Shocked By You?

By

Cable with groundIn listening to the dialogue of many in presenting ideas in real estate or in negotation I wonder often about their thinking processes.

Are You Well Grounded Or Are People Shocked By You?

In electrical transmission the ground conductor prevents dangerous current from flowing through YOU and allows it safely to go to the "ground" connection.

Well grounding among people means you use sound judgment, you are patient, you strive to understand and be understood, your ideas are based on good reasoning, you are collaborative and realistic, organized, well versed in your area, rational and precise. You have a foundation for what you say and how you think.

Plainly you are not scatterbrained, think before you act, and are on an even keel Now are there days when our cords are a bit frayed? Sure. But being well grounded we don't get others into trouble, "shocking" them, well at least not intentionally. Keep both feet on the ground and work with people in a polite, respectful and well informed manner. If you don't know an answer obtain it. Above all put that brain in gear before the mouth goes in motion. Otherwise you might burn your house or someone else's house down.

I think most of the time that I am well grounded......there are times however that a tube of gorilla glue might keep my yap closes long enough to weather the storm.

I'm well grounded AND people are [often] shocked by me.

I just trust in the outerworkings of my choices - and the Universe. I don't know why or how things work. I just know they do and will.

GREAT post -- as all of em are!

Gary...

I really like this analogy, as shocking as it seems!

I definitely have my 'Blond' moments. I try to save those for my husband but I probably have slipped once or twice. But for the most part I have found that practicing what I plan to say helps. I have great practice sessions in my car on the way to appointments. This may sound silly to some but really works great for me.

Great post!

I find one of the best tactics in Real Estate is the 'walk away.' Sometimes I have to just deal with something else for a couple of minutes until my head clears. Other times I have to go for a long walk or run. Sometimes I have to give it 24 hours before I react.

GARY- Grounded for sure- it is by far easier to solve life's many problems by keeping a proactive approach instead of being a reactive live wire.  Although...one of life's greatest joy's to occasionally shock someone with wit, and humor.

Gary - I think I'm a grounded person and all well rounded :). People with age become more grounded, at least I'm even more now than before. Stop, Listen and Think before you speak - they teach Kindergardner this, right!

Ya, well-grounded, good idea.  My goal especially with a new client, mouth shut, ears open.  Even the perception of being well grounded is of upmost importance.  Thanks for reminding me.

Gary: I feel I don't have time to dance around a situation. As a home inspector I have to write my findings according to what I see and what TREC requires me to do. Sometimes folks aren't happy, but I'm just the messenger hired by the buyer. One thing I like about all the new technology, photographs tell the truth and along with my report when presented I feell I have done my job. I inspected a home today that had been vacant for five years, over 40 years old so you can well imagine the kind of day that I had. Thank goodness I'm grounded.

Gary, I don't know if I am well grounded, but people ask me often how I get so much done in a day!

You would ask this after my scatter-brained day yesterday!  OK, most of the time I am grounded.  I guess days like yesterday are a good reminder to stay focused.

Another good analogy by Gary!  I shocked some people just the other day when I told them to change out the wall paper and paint the walls with something other than white.  Said I was the first agent to say no to wall paper and white walls.  Huh?

Wow, Gary, all of the descriptive words you used to identify a grounded person are spread across the color spectrum on the personality profile posted on my blog.  Those components create a well-balanced person, and sadly, there are not many out there, that can claim that kind of balance in their attributes.  We are either organized, or patient or rational or collaborative, or maybe 2 or 3 out of 4, but rarely ALL of that! It is certainly something to strive for, because otherwise, any of us could appear quite shocking to another, due to our LACK of patience, organization...you get my drift! =o)  P.S. Love the analogy!

Hi Gary Great analogy ...grounded is a must in our industry that is for sure.  How many times have deals ( I hate that word used in real estate, but can not think of a better  word )   gone up in smoke because of not being grounded.
