What a day...

By
Real Estate Agent with J and C Realty

Well yesterday I started out in a great mood and headed out to my office down the street to do my floor time.  I got there and received a call from a notary signing service asking if I was available to do a signing in about an hour.  I said sure.  Not long after I received the docs and started printing them out.  The printer decided it was going to be tempermental so I decided to come home to print them.  Well my printer just quit working and unfortunately I am not computer saavy enough to figure out what is wrong with it.

Knowing I was going to be late I called the client.  Apparently he was thinking I was already supposed to be there so he was upset.  He told me if I wasn't there in 15 minutes he was cancelling the whole deal.  I know the broker of the loan company I was doing the signing for so I called him and let him know what was going on.  About 5 minutes later the loan officer called me very upset telling me he was never using my services again.  I apologized.

Well I called the escrow company and they re emailed the docs to me.  Apparently there was someting wrong with the email that is why they wouldn't print right for me.  I called the client back and he said he no longer wished to continue with the transaction and siad he was not happy with the overall service of the loan company.  I called the broker back and told him what the client had said.

Again the loan officer called me back taliking about how I ruined his whole deal and it was all my fault.  I again apologized but was not sure exactly what I should have done different ot make the situation better.  Well this morning the loan officer called me and asked me to call the client to see of he would be available to sign over the weekend.  So I called.  Apparently the client had asked the loan officer to cancel the transaction and to never call him again.  So he used me to call.  Now he is mad because the client doesn't want to sign over the weekwnd and he is not going to get his commission.  He told me that I was ridiculously irresponsible with his loan.  What did I do?  Obviously the client was irritated with the loan company far before I was ever involved and what was I supposed to do?

Could you not have gone directly to the loan office and done it there?  I have to wonder why one of their own employees was not a notary.

They only gave you an hour to jump through all the hoops and they think it is your fault the deal failed? It doesn't sound like you did anything to deserve all the heartache.

A day in Real Estate.  I always find it funny how some are always so quick to put the blame on someone else instead of looking for the real reasons the deal fell apart.

When all else fails, blame the notary. One hour isn't enough time to print docs and be in front of the borrower. Next time I'd tell them you need more than an hour.

It was obvious the borrower wasn't happy with the loan company overall so there's not much you could have done.

It sounds like the borrower has had the same kind of experience with the Loan Officer as you did.  He obviously wasn't happy with the company long before you came into the picture.  Looks as tho this transaction was doomed from the start and the loan officer was just looking for someone to blame.

He would definately be placed on my no-no list if I were in your shoes!  There is nothing more you could have done, you did all you possibly could to rectify a transaction.  You did exactly what you should have done.

Chalk it up to the business, although it is hard to move on, but you must.  It will not happen often, but it WILL happen again, and it will be equally frustrating, but a variety of things can happen and go wrong.  Do the best you can to fix the problem, but I have had past issues with .PDF's or other files not properly printing.  Sometimes you lose them for good, other times they are understanding.  Just hope they are the understanding type!
