Disabling a stolen mobile phone

Check your mobile phone's serial number by keying in the following digits on your phone: *#06#

A 15 digit code will appear on the screen which is unique to your handset.  Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.  If your phone gets stolen, you can call your service provider and give them this code.  They will then be able to block your handset, so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless.

You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use it or sell it.  If everybody did this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones!

Hope this helps!

Cell phones are already so cheap that I don't see why anyone would want to steal one in the first place.  Also, if you keep your phone on your person, it will be harder to steal, unless your name is Chris Angel.

I tried it and nothing happened  I have a new LG phone I got from Verizon.  Are you supposed to push "OK," or "Send" or is it supposed to pop up upon completion of touching the last # in the series?
