"My best customers," says Dave Dugas, "are the guys who probably didn't have enough toy solders when they were kids. They come in and say 'I had one like that. Or more often, 'The guy around the corner had one like that. I couldn't afford it.' I don't have to sell these guys. They reminisce themselves into a sale." Gambit Article
Located on Royal Street in New Orleans, 73 year old Dave Dugas has been running his toy soldier store for the last 30 plus years. He was a pharmacist before going into the toy soldier business. I remember looking at this store for the last 40 years as it was so unique. Dave said his business is way down since Katrina as there are few tourist in town now for almost a year. I have always wanted to buy a few so I am going to make it a point to buy a couple for myself this week. I can tell my wife its something we can give to the grandkids but they will be for me. I know Wal-Mart will never stock these. Just a touch of the New Orleans retail scene. Its a guy thing for the soldiers. There are plenty of art stores and antiques French Quarter thru Photos
