Home Staging Transformations in Orlando: #1 The Kitchen

By
Home Stager with Gloria Home Staging, Inc.

This condo near Orlando had a kitchen suffering from chronic ordinariness, until Gloria Home Staging stepped in to help. There were other units in the complex for sale, and we knew that updating this kitchen would make the apartment really stand out.

There were two primary issues to deal with. One was the general clutter and disarray. The 1980’s euro-cabinets were the main problem, however, so that’s where we focused our efforts.

Kitchen before   Kitchen before

And here are the results: Since replacing the cabinets was not an option, we decided to paint them one of Benjamin Moore’s most current colors: a warm brown called Kona. We cleared off the counters and refrigerator, leaving only a handful of attractive accents. To add even more color to this very white space, we covered the bar stools’ seats with fabric that coordinated with the cabinets. And to call attention to the volume ceiling, one of the apartment’s best assets, we added a large wall clock.

Kitchen after   Kitchen after

Simple changes can make a dramatic difference! From the condo’s first four showings, the owners received two offers. That is certainly a staging success story!

Caring expertise...knowledge for you!

Wow!    They may be simple changes, but it's a huge "finish".

Laurie -- I love that brown color on the cabinets ... that was indeed an instant update!  Did you need any special primer before painting over those Euro cabinets?

great job.  I see those cabinets so much and always wondered what to do with them.  Looks fantastic.

Li - Thanks! It really feels like a completely different place.

Maureen - Yes, we used a primer under the paint, but it really wasn't more complicated than a normal paint job - just a bit of sanding between coats. The folks at Benjamin Moore were wonderfully helpful. I'm glad you like how it turned out!

Chrissie - Thanks! We were so pleased with it, and so were the owners and realtor. Yay!

I thought painting white Formica cabinets was a bear.   Was there a specific process for that?

Ana - Thanks! We knew Kona was the right color as soon as we saw it. It's just scrumptious!

Virginia - There are a few steps to it, but it wasn't that hard. You sand the cabinets, then apply a coat of primer, lightly sand that, and then put on two coats of the paint. The guys at Benjamin Moore were so helpful. They steered us to the right primer, and coached us through the whole process. The paint could have used a bit more drying time than we were able to give it, but otherwise it went very well. And it certainly did its job! Thanks for commenting!

Cathy - Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

What a dramatic transformation!  Why didn't I think to use "transformations" in my series title, since it's my business name?  I love the color and I love the extra touch of adding the color to the stools too!  Beautiful job, Laurie!

Thanks, Sharon! You didn't use "transformations" because you were saving it for me... ;-) That color is so chocolatey, it almost made us hungry to paint with it! As for the stools, my partner Susan is a woman of great energy and resourcefulness - and we just happened to have the perfect fabric just lying around. I'm glad you like it!

Laurie...great changes and really updated!  Love the "new cabinets" and thanks for the details on getting the painting accomplished.  What is the white (?) strip at the bottom of the cabinets?

Hi, Ginger - Thanks! The strip at the bottom is the formerly oak pull strip of the cabinets, now painted a lovely cream color whose name escapes me. Glad to help!

Thanks Laurie...I'm very familiar with those cabinets and I remember a time when I really, seriously considered them for one of my former homes.

Ginger - I guess many things that are in vogue look good to us at the time, and then we look back years later and ask, "What was I thinking?" Actually, I have cousins of these cabinets, minus the oak pull strips, in my own kitchen. At least I know I can paint them if I sell my house before I can replace them!

Thanks,  Debby! And you're welcome on the painting tips. Everything I know, I learned from the guys at Benjamin Moore! I'm glad to pass it on.
