FINALLY! Good News for the California Real Estate Market

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Mission Grove Realty Inc.

Have you read the great news in your local paper about the California housing market?insanity marketing - mission grove realty

Neither have I yet, agents continue to advertise in a media with record decline in readership. With more than 80% of buyers, by N.A.R. estimates, looking to the internet for housing research, why do agents continue the insanity? (Insanity: Doing the same thing, getting the same result (Little to Nothing) and wondering why..)

It continues to amaze me that agents want to advertise in a place where, nearly every day, the headline reads "More Housing Woes", "Foreclosures Near Record Highs", "Homeowners....We Told You So" and so on. On the next page, you find XYX Real Estate....the Agents you can trust..?! What?

The Real Estate sections of nearly every newspaper have printed nearly nothing positive for many months yet, agents advertise their wares on the next pages with great zeal. Right after the gloom and doom on the front page and, in many papers, right next to the bad news. Do you really need the competition? What do the few readers think about the agents ad that completely contradicts the headline news?

Something to think about! There is a time and place for print advertising but think all of us should really think about when....and where.

Competition is a good thing and a great motivator. Should we pay for competition?

Chris,

Once again you are right on the money!  Why would I give my money to anyone that is trying to put me out of business - it is really very similiar to buying leads - why do we do it when we just feed the beast???

Now Have a Blessed Day,

Yup, funny stuff. The crazy thing is, guess who is paying the newspaper to publish the doom and gloom?

JOHN & JOHN:  Yes, the very folks (Agents - Advertisers) that pay to print the gloom and doom think that they will somehow have the ability to sway the consumer with phrases like "Trust Me", "The Agent with integrity" and so on. Funny stuff in my opinion. Take a look at the June issue of California Real Estate which brings an interesting point that you dont see in the papers and continues to be an issue in this great state: THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOMES.......and wont be at the current pace of building. The law of supply and demand no longer applies I supppose. A ton of business shcools will need to change their teachings....at least according to the press.

TERI: Dont forget the MLS for rental listings. There are hundreds available in our area and only 4 are currently on the MLS! Better quality folks are looking to Realtor.com and the MLS (Cant have one without the other). Have a great day!

Now I didn't know that rentals were on the MLS.  Learn something new and valuable everyday.  Or did I read that wrong.  I will check MLS a little closer.  Guess I never really thought about it either, 'cause I don't have any rentals to work with.

If the MLS is availble to add listings in your area, you need to list there. Most do have rental sections and most agents never venture there. A great tool that is rarely used.....GOOD FOR YOU....Bad for the client if their property isnt there!

Christopher,

Amen to your post!!!  I stopped advertising in the local paper here in Palm Springs because of their biased reporting.

For them, BAD NEWS sells newspapers.

I've been seduced in the past by all king of shroud advertisers and paying them to post my listings... but not anymore.

It still is a very competitive market out there and hard to get good exposure to your listings. It is indeed getting harder and harder.

You have to pay no one to gain excellent exposure and produce outstanding results! Realtor.com is the only exception in my book. Featured and Showcase listing products are a must.
