Mayor Al Larson's Aviation Celebration

Soar into the northwest suburban skies on August 29 and 30 at the 3rd Annual Mayor Al Larson's Aviation Celebration. Plan to spend time at the Schaumburg Regional Airport for what promises to be the biggest and best event yet.

Take a ride in an airplane with Windy City Flyers, the flight school based at Schaumburg Regional Airport. In addition to Windy City Flyers, participants can strap on a helmet and go for a ride in an open-air biplane, take a ride on a C-47 WWII cargo aircraft, or take a ride in a four-seater helicopter.

There will be a lot of food served by Pilot Pete's and fun things to see and do-including a paper airplane contest, a car show, and crafters' wares. Children's activities include moonwalks, games, crafts, face painting, magic, and a clown.

The event, sponsored by the Northwest Flyers and Pilot Pete's Restaurant, will benefit the Woodfield Area Childrens Organization which is a 100% volunteer 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity that benefits disadvantaged children in northwest Cook and Kane counties.

Admission for the two-day event is $7 advance purchase or $8 at the gate. Children five and under are admitted free. Tickets are valid for both days. Event times are August 29, 10am - 6pm and August 30, 10am - 4pm.

Schaumburg Regional Airport is located at 905 W. Irving Park Road. Pilot Pete's has advance tickets for sale. Call the Northwest Flyers for information at 847.985.9778.

Bill:  This is a great little event that's right in our own backyard.  Exposes the kids to possibly a career in flying, etc.  Let's them get up close with the pilots, mechanics, etc to ask questions.  Not to mention the TV station helicopters are also housed here. The other planes are great nostalgia from WW2.  For anyone that's interested there is always another event held in July at the DuPage Airport a short distance away.  This year they had an old Mieg fighter.

Lyn,

We love aviation shows, and if time permitted, I'd travel to Schaumberg just for this!
