Computer hard drive crash

By
Real Estate Agent with Homes And People

The first time my computer hard drive was wiped-out, it was about five years ago. I lost few pictures and some files but nothing that my life depended on. Since then I went out and purchased an external hard drive and once a month or so I backed all my files like anyone should. The problem is that when I lost my hard drive last week, I also lost all my work since the last back up. I was able to take the hard drive to a local computer store who charged me $200 to do a level two restoration of all my files. But even with the restoration I still lost some files in my email box.

Please please please back up your files because it is only a matter of when your hard drive will crash.

I will tell you soon about my new secret weapon.

I have had a few hard drive crashes in my lifetime, but I ma happy to say that I learned from each one.  Weekly backups are best, but focus on backing up your "data files" more than anything else and you can save space on your portable or other drives.

Currently, I have 2 250GB drives in my computer and a 60GB portable.  I back up data and pictures to the 60GB drive and I run data back and forth across the 2 250GB so the data that is really important is on all 3 drives.

It takes more work the way I do it, but I know I will not lose important data more than a week old this way and I usually change out my drives every 2 years, so I have not had a crash in a while.  I build my own systems, so I tend to change parts every now and then.

Hard drive crashes are the PITS! I back up all files on my computer to flash/jump drives on a regular basis.  I recommend everyone do this...a crash CAN happen to you!

Saber,

Once a month backup is gonna be a problem if you have 25-29 days of new data NOT on your backup. Have you thought of going to once a week? Maybe even every other day? The systems should be able to be set to auto backup as often as you like, but a month would scare me!
