I recently had the pleasure, no wait I mean the displeasure of dealing with another one those agents who feel the need to tell everyone how long they have been a Realtor. We were discussing a normal part of the transaction when she whipped out a "I've been a Realtor for 30 years sweetie. Gag!
First of all, why do these agents feel the need to announce to the World how long they have been selling Real Estate? Second, why is it always 30 years, never 22, 23 ,28 but always 30. It's almost like some strange board game that when you pass 15 years you go immediately to 30. And lastly, I really don't care how many years you have been selling Real Estate. If you want to impress me tell me how many homes you have sold in the past year. No better yet, don't tell me anything. Instead, work hard, provide great service and perform at such a high level that you don't need a neon sign announcing you as the Queen (or King) of the Real Estate world.
By the way, this is just a matter of irritation for me but I can imagine it causes embarrassment and maybe shame for a new agent when they run into one these 30 year Real Estate superstars. Personally, I prefer to work with new agents as they generally possess a true enthusiasm with out the sickening ego we have to deal with in this profession.
It would do us all good if we treated our co-professionals with the same respect you typically hold deer for our favorite Realtor. Like the song goes, "Respect Yourself"
