A lot of people think the the Outer Banks, and especially Corolla, becomes a ghost town in the off-season. Although the population may vary depending on the time of year, we are becoming a 10 month resort thanks to the great off season prices, proximity to the northern states (many can make it here with only one stop for gas), and milder climate (we hit 75 degrees this past Sunday). Because of this, there are still plenty of things to do & places to both eat & shop.

Waterfowl hunting, decoy-making and fishing are all traditions connected to the region's ecology and are important elements in the center's design. The Whalehead Club is the restored 1920s residence of Edward and Marie Louise Knight on the Currituck Sound. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the home, footbridge and boathouse adorn a 39-acre public park which is also home to the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education. Regular tours Monday – Saturday (closed Sundays from December – February). Specialty tours are available by reservation.
Other winter closings include: December 24 through 28, 2008, and January 1 and 19, 2009.
During the off-season, Specialty Tours (Children's Art Time, Treasure Hunt, Behind the Scenes, etc.) are available on Tuesday only and require an advance reservation. Reservations are not required for Standard Tours.
The Moonlight Ghost Tour is available on the first Saturday night of each month at 7:30 p.m.
