By
Real Estate Agent with Downing-Frye Realty, Bonita Springs, FL 676419

Wiggins PassBarefoot Beach and Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park are two parks located in Northern Collier County.  The parks are separated by Wiggins Pass, a water channel fed by the Cocohatchee River.

Barefoot Beach is located south of Bonita Beach on Barefoot Beach Blvd. in Bonita Springs, Florida.  Park admission is $5.00.  Restroom, shower and snack service facilities are on site.

Barefoot Beach Park is a Gopher Tortoise preserve.  This is an excellent location to catch a glimps of these dinosaurs in action.

Wiggins Pass is on the south side of the channel and accessible by car via 111th Avenue in Naples Park.  The fee for entry is $5.00 per car.

Wiggins Pass is a popular destination for fishermen and boaters.  A boat ramp is located at the Cocohatchee River Park near the intersection of Vanderbilt Drive and Wiggins Pass Road.

The boat ramp empties you into Water Turkey Bay, which runs via the South Channel into the Cocohatchee River. The docks at the boat ramp are ADA accessible.  The launch fee for the boat ramp is $5.00.  There is a small bait, supply store and fuel for marine vessels is available.  The Gulf of Mexico is about 15 minutes (idle speed) frpom the ramp and marina.  Read more about Wiggins Pass Activities.

The Gopher Tortoise is federally protected species click his photo below to learn more.

Thanks for stopping in! These are great beaches. The turtles are a scream.  They're like little tanks running all over the place.

Chris-

I can never get enough of Barefoot.  I practically live there on the weekends.  It is by far the most beautiful beach ever, and we are so lucky to be able to go there year round.

Thanks for sharing your great photos.

Don't you love it Molly?!

JaneAnne, these are gopher tortoises.  THey only do land, they can't swim. They are vegetarian and live in burrows in the ground like a ... gopher!

And you have watch the gopher tortoises very carefully so they don't crawl under your car in the parking lot!  They have lost a few in the past few years because of this.  It's really sad.  They do a great job of making visitors to the park aware to look under their cars now, before they leave to help avoid any future accidents.

I was reading that they had to pass a bill recently to keep developers from burying the nests of the Gopher Turtles in Florida... why did that take a bill?

One of the fun things about Florida is walking outside in your backyard and running smack dab into wildlife...

My favorite probably are some of the birds.

I had 50-60 wild parrots flying around in the spring!
