Domain Names ARE NOT Case Sensitive -- Capitalize Letters to STAND OUT!

By
Industry Observer with RETIRED / State License is Inactive Inactive License Oregon

Case sensative . . . as in lower case: abcdefghijklmnop....

And UPPER case:  QRSTUVWXYZ

I get so frustered when I read a nice blog, or see a nice website and it reads:

howtogetthethingtofly.com

Since domain names ARE NOT case sensitive -- it doesn't matter if you use an Upper case letter OR a Lower case letter -- don't you think  . . . when promoting yourself . . . you WANT your doman name to stand out, be clearly legible, and easy to remember?

If it's hard for someone to decipher your domain name, it's not going to be remembered.

HowToGetTheThingToFly.com

Better??

I think so!

Since we can't use spaces between words in a domain name, and those pesky "_" (underscores) are SO hard to type, how can we make our eye distinguish our domains, e-mail addresses, blog sites better?

Which would you rather read:  www.carlamussjacobs.com OR www.CarlaMussJacobs.com

Emphasize yourself.

Even in your emailsCarlaHomes@msn.com is so much easier to read than:  carlahomes@msn.com

You WANT your blog, e-mail address, website to be easy to read = easy to remember!

It's a CAPITAL idea!

It's not just my chest . . . we were taught this in e-Pro training, and I see tons of people (not only agents) having their names hard to decipher.

poconomountainlakesrealty vs. PoconoMountainLakesRealty

You tell me which stands out?

This is a great point, Carla. The domain name is a "free" marketing tool. If it really contains something useful (CarlaSellsPortlandHomes.com) vs. random nonsense (abdefg.com - which no thinking person would buy as a domain name) then the only sensible thing to do is emphasize it with any available tools like bolding, capitalizing, italizing, etc when promoting it:

CarlaSellsHOMES.com

CarlaSellsHomes.com

CARLASellsHomes.com

The different emphasis on these names could be used in different campaigns.

Hi JL -- Thanks for your comments, as always . . . much appreciated!

Hey Prescott Group -- good points!!  Thanks for adding these comments, and rounding out the post.  I actually have "CarlaSellsPortland.com"  I suppose I should develop that domain too!

Sweet.  I had another agent tell me this when I gave her my email address.  You know -- I started with the preamble; "its all one word and lowercase".  She said it's not case sensitive so why don't you spell it like you normally do...it'll make it easier for people to remember.  Thank you for reminding me again.

We use RentinPayson.com to point to our main domain (PrestRealty.com) because so many people mis-spell both Prest and Realty. I always use the caps to make it readable.
