June--Were they ever really described in color or do you just picture them as brown or black bears? Something to think about....lol (only on a Sunday night when you have NOTHING better to do).

William--I am intrigued by your question as I don't know if I know that particular Indian legend (as we have quite a few parks and lakes named for Sioux in Minnesota). But I am really intrigued as to how YOU would know of a MN Indian legend since you live in San Diego...Now that is a good question! I do plan to research the legend as it would be great fodder for a post. :)

Judy--Bears are popular in our area as many of the high school mascots (besides White Bear Lake) are Bears, Polars etc. But these are very cute all lined up along Hwy 61!

Good Morning Teri,

When I read your post the first time, I didn't leave a comment. White Bear stuck in my head so I Googled it like anyone else would do, and there it was. When I returned to your post, I was still intrigued with White Bear, believing like most that the only white bears we are acquainted with are the Polar Bears. I suspect this was an albino brown brown or at least a brown bear born with some gene defect that caused it's fur to grow in a natural or blond coloration.

But the lore is romantic and I am always a sucker for that, LOL. Besides, what would our country be without all these wonderful stories to share on our campgrounds.

In a couple weeks I am off for Yosemite and Lake Tahoe and I will look and listen for all the lore of this area. The Giant Sequoias will surely have some stories hidden in their midst. While I photograph every tree and ounce of water I run into, lol,

Teri,

If it weren't for the flowers, I might think that this was a wintertime shot. Like the three lined up like this. :)
