No data device, loss of interested client

Is there any reason why a sales professional in any type of business doesn't have a data device, such as a blackberry or iphone?  In todays day and age of instant gratification, why would an agent or sales rep of any kind not make themselves available to their client, or potential client, when they are ready to talk to you?

 

For example, if a client or potential customer takes time out of their day to compose an email to you, is there any rationale that would make sense to let the customer who is obviously thinking about your services wait for sometimes several hours before they get an email response from you? 

 

Interested in your comments, and please don't tell me in this line of work, you don't want to be bothered all the time, because you are willing to answer the lead call from 9am to 9pm, right?

Evan - Well, I for one do not have a Blackberry or an iphone.  I own a Razor, a computer at my brokerage office and a laptop at my home office.  I check my emails at least every 2-3 hours and explain to John Q. Public that if I do not call back right away that means I am with another John Q. Public.  I do show property after 5:00 p.m. and available on weekends.  Matter of fact, just got off the phone tonight at 8:55 p.m. on a SUNDAY evening. 

I Hear what you are saying...I still believe it comes down to personal service and dedication in this profession.  You can have all the newest toys out there but if you don't give of yourself...it does not matter.  BTW, I see you are fixing to be on your "anniversary date" of blogging...keep it up!

I finally got around to getting email on my Blackberry. Even so, I tend not to check it as regularly as perhaps I should. It's SOOO much easier to read email on my laptop than a tiny phone screen. I'm trying to train buyers to either call by cell or txt me if they need something right away. My email still waits until I get back to my laptop unless I'm away on vacation and my phone is actuallly replacing my laptop!
