Texas StatewideCell Phone Ban in School Zones Starts Tomorrow
September 1, a new law goes into effect statewide that prohibits the use of cell phones in reduced-speed school zones. The law does allow drivers to use cell phones while their vehicle is stopped in a school zone, or with a hands-free device. In addition, a cell phone may be used in a school zone when making an emergency call to the police, fire department, and/or emergency medical services. This law also applies to bus drivers. Violators are subject to a fine of up to $200.

Oh dear!  It will probably trickle down/up to the other states.  This must be a distraction issue.

I think it is the bus driver issue since so many public transport accidents recently have been caused by drivers/conductors on cel phones or texting and being inattentive.....notice they are exempting drivers stopped in the school zone....I think it is a good idea

Tracy, I think that this is going to become a standard everywhere, and to be honest, I can see why watching people, myself included, do dumb things while trying to talk on a cell phone.  Children are our most precious resource!
