Sometimes I do wonder why I am in this line of work. I started out being a teacher and working with children age 5 to 11. I loved it but found that I was missing adult conversations.
When the opportunity came along or me to thing about being a realtor, I decided to give it a try. I am so glad that I did. I have been successful in matching buyers and sellers with real estate and everyone ends up a winner. I love the success of doing just that!
Why do YOU do this work?
Hi Ginger. I think you and I are pretty much on the same page. A major motivation for me is the social contact, both with clients and with other Realtors. The income is nice and I'd not do it for free but as a single retiree from the corporate world, it's primarily social.
Richard, You are so right. There is so much camaraderie that goes on in this office. I want to come to work. I do not dread it.

Well, Im in the mortgage business but I'll still play... :-)
I started off in April 1993. Didnt know exactly what I wanted to do, but took a job at Countrywide Home Loans because the pay was good (at the time) and it was a REAL job - not fast food, security, etc. I'm not trying to insult any other careers, but at that age to me a real job was being in an office environment. I learned all of the servicing side of being in mortgages and always wanted to venture out to being an LO... just never took the plunge.
Well, about 3 years ago, we were financially in a position where I could make that leap. As you know from going into Real Estate, you can easily go 3-6 months (sometimes longer) without receiving a check. But marketing still costs and materials. Since we were lucky enough to be in that position, I made the jump from servicing to Loan Originations. I Love it. I'm involved with customers, which I always liked... I work numbers, which I love (wanted to be an accountant while in college... but it was too boring after all)... and I am flexible with my schedule. So I can leave work early for family events and stay late for those busy customers. Very flexible and very rewarding.
