Terry - I have been coming through Bath for many years on my way out to Popham Beach. Love this town, the home of Maury Povich. Hopefully will be coming up for the fall foliage again this year... Staying out on Cox Head possibly...

Hi Terry: but really seriously is there anywhere in Maine where the scenery isn't beautiful?

Hi Terry,

Is the Bath Iron Works shipyard still in business building ships for the navy?  Your link mentioned the BIW museum.  I just wondered if the BIW survived the naval cutbacks of the Cold War.  Beautiful area-it's been 25 years since I have been through.

Robert - It's nice to have others love the things I love - - Popham is perfect!

Andrew - you are so right - - Bath is just my favorite little piece of Maine!

Matt - you are right, it all is beautiful, but different towns can be very different kinds of beautiful!

Bruce -

Yes, the BIW cranes still grace Bath's skyline just south of Route 1 and continue to turn out DDG-51's for the Navy.  There really is no BIW museum, but the Maine Maritime Museum, built on the grounds of the historic Percy and Small Shipyard on South Washington Street offers "trolley" tours of BIW.  These tours have become incredibly popular - -My husband works for Lockheed Martin at the yard and I've had the opportunity to go over there on several occassions (mostly ship christenings) and it really is an amazing operation - "Bath Built is Best Built" don't you know!  I'd say, after 25 years, it's time for a return visit!
