It was a difficult day going door to door today. A fellow co-worker of mine and I picked a neighborhood and started hitting up the homes. Most of the people were gone so I just left information on the door. I have noticed that I never get calls from homes where I just left information on their door. One person started laughing when I told him what I was looking for, but turns out he ended up being a nice guy. One person yelled at me and said "no soliciting!". The other reason why it was so difficult was because it is about 80 degrees today. It is a painful process but I did get one good lead. Someone has been considering selling their home and I need to get him some more information. So even though it was painful something good did come out of it, which is why I encourage everyone to get out there and make it happen.
Here are some tips to make it a little easier.
1. Team up with another agent in your office and do the canvasing together. You take one side of the road and your co-worker take the other. It is nice know that someone else is going through what you are going through, and you can push each other to get the job done.
2. Make sure that you have valuable information to hand out. Also, make sure you know what to say to get them to answer your questions.
3. Have some motivational phrases that you can say when things aren't going well. Like, "This too shall pass" and "What lies before us and what lies behind us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." These are phrases from books that I have read.
4. Just make sure that you get out there. It is easy to procrastanate but once you get out there it is not so bad, and when you are done you feel really good about what you accomplished.
