Did the Labor Day weekend go by too fast for you? I remember waiting for it to come. We were looking forward to the last weekend of summer and it was a perfect weather weekend. It just seemed to end too soon. So, this morning, instead of it really being Tuesday, it seems more like a Monday:)
To shake off that long weekend feeling, here are a few tips of ideas that I use to get myself back in the game.
* Take a morning walk. Needn't be miles long, just walk a block or two. Just to get the fresh air and clear your head. Drink water!
* Plan your day, early in the morning, before the phone begins to ring. I use the Franklin Day Planner, but, any planner will work. A piece of paper, to prioritize your day, will even work. The system that I use, recommends A, B, C & D, your appointments or tasks for the day. Amazingly, when you make an X over the one that you have completed, it does offer you a sense of accomplishment. Small wins during the day, that will make you feel more confident and therefore, more productive. Winning the day!
* Still overwhelmed today, try this; Hold a Power Hour for Yourself. Make a sign for your office door, Do Not Disturb, Power Hour in Session. Now, you have blocked out an hour during your busy day, to get the stuff done that is overwhelming you. Make calls out, do not accept calls coming in. Just for this one hour. Tend to your files, your clients, your heavy load for today. Make it an hour that helps you to finish your tasks, so that, you can spend the rest of your day, moving forward. Drink water!
* Take a lunch break. Doesn't have to be long, just take a little break and have something healthy to eat. Maybe, ask an associate to join you. Drink water!
* Finish up your day with appointments, answering those calls that came in when you were not available and place files that will need follow-up, aside for tomorrow. Drink water!
* Before you retire, take another walk. The fresh air does wonders for stress and work related anxieties. Drink water!
Hope this little routine for getting back to work, after a long weekend, helped you today! If you have a minute or two, try to journal, write some notes to people that you were with over the weekend. Notes are nice to write and even better, to receive.
According to the calendar, last day of summer, I believe, is September 20th. Yet, the chill is already in the air!
