Wordy Wednesday From Colorado - A Surprise at the Beach!

By
Real Estate Agent with Real Estate Showcase Photography

I was standing next to a rock jetty on a beach during my San Diego visit last week, photographing this little Willet. All of a sudden, he started screaming (REALLY screaming!) and flapping, and took off. I thought I had gotten too close to him, and scared him. But I've never had a bird react to me like THAT!

Willet (Shore Bird)

Then, I looked to my left, and sitting on the jetty I saw this!

Sharp Shinned Hawk

It wasn't me who scared the Willet. I never in a million years expected to see a HAWK at the beach, especially just sitting there on the rocks! I got several shots before he flew off. In this one, I think he was deciding I was too big a meal for lunch....

Lucky little Willet.... :)

What's next?

Talkative Tuesday?!!!

Sound Off Sunday?!!!

Mouthy Monday?!!!

All kidding aside, my friend, those are, as always, great photos!

Well done!

I'd scream, too, if I were a Willet and saw a Hawk so close by, Debi.  Great photos.

Debi, I think that is an Osprey. Where were you when you took the picture?

Now I see where it was taken.  In NJ we would call that hawk an Osprey, which is a Fish Hawk.

What great photos, as usual!  You may have saved that little guy's life.  I love the water around his feet, I can almost see it moving!

Debi-You are now also a bird saver as well as a wonderful photographer. Nicely done and spectacular pics as always. How close were you to the hawk? It is an exceptional shot. :-)

Great photo though I'm use to only seeing wolves after the chicks on the beach =)

The way I see it,

Debi, those are such great shots. When I try to shoot (well with a camera) birds they are too quick to fly away. ~Rita

Thanks everyone for your visit and comments!

Paul - You are absolutely right - lots of wolves on the beach! ;)

Robert, No, this guy is a Sharp Shinned Hawk - much smaller than an osprey, and with different coloring.

Having a rough couple of days, not feeling real well - will catch up with everyone soon :)

Both pictures were incredible, thanks for sharing.

The main thing it did for me was make me want to be at the beach, any beach.

Birds, even hawks, have to go where the food is. On my recent travels up and down the San Diego South Bay, I've been seeing lots of signs telling me that ospreys are in the area. Unfortunately, I haven't seen one yet, but I've certainly been having fun with all the other birds. Love them, and yours!

"Seagull 1, taking off"

And by the way, just what the heck were you doing in San Diego without calling me? I'm hurt. I'm even depressed. Now I'll have to go for a walk to see if I can get some more bird pictures. Ah, I love working out of a depression.... LOL
