My life revolves around baseball in a major and minor way. At least being a Realtor, we have compatible busy seasons. You see my husband is a Major League Baseball Scout who covers North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. He travels a great deal in the Springtime as you can well imagine. My son is a Minor League Baseball player. This year he will be playing for the Hudson Valley Renegades in Beacon, New York. My daughter works full time. So she and I are left doing our own things while the guys are off watching, playing, scouting, for skills with a little round ball. Don't get me wrong; I love baseball. It definitely is the "Thinking Man's Game" because of all the strategy involved. And, the whole atmosphere in the ball park is just fun. I must admit I like it best when my son is playing. I always keep score.
However, the point of this blog is how the mentality of baseball creeps into every aspect of your life. You can't help but only give folks three chances before they have struck out with you. Or, if they do something wonderful, they have hit a home run. Situations are looked at in depth in case you have a man on first, one out, and you'd love to hit one out of the park. Nope, you can't do that because it would be selfish; for the sake of the team you have to bunt him over and take the sacrifice. That moves the runner over to second so he can score when the next batter gets a hit. See there's no guarantee you'd get that home run, but it's likely they can get that one run in. One run at a time; they add up and you win the game. Baseball is a game of fundamentals: you run, you catch, you throw; no errors. Basic skills and speed. Good sportmanship. Hard work, diligence. It's the same on or off the field to achieve success. One play, one deal at a time and it adds up to a winning game, a winning team, a winning year. You just keep practicing to improve your skills then you win more. Hey, that's real estate. That's baseball. That is life!
