I lovingly call the above title one of my "daddy-isms" (is that a word?). I have so many memories of my dad using this statement, mostly when he wanted to make sure us kids had been paying attention to what was being or had been said. To this day I don't know where he got this statement or any of the other's for that matter...but many of them have stuck with me.
I recently attended a Learning Session Series in which Lola Audu was teaching and was very surprised to find REALTORS who had been in this industry for 3-5 years that had no knowledge of Zillow, Craig's List, Blogging Networks or any idea of what blogging is and the benefits it can offer.
I will be the first to admit I'm relatively new to the real estate industry and have much to learn however I already know the importance of the internet (even though I may not understand all the in's and out's yet) and will continue to learn until it becomes comfortable.
It just amazes me....even when agents are supplied this valuable information how easily they can and will discount it. (IT'S NOT WHEN YOU GET UP..... IT'S WHEN YOU WAKE UP!) The system(s) they are currently using may still be working for them now however I have seen during my time of involvement in real estate that it is continuously changing and that to survive you must be open to learn more and...still more.
I have entered this career with my eyes wide open and have found something that I believe I definitely have in my favor. I will not ignore or discount change. Change never comes easy....we all know this and while some of us will push forward...others will dig in their heels. I choose to be one that pushes forward....even if it's in small steps.
As a previous Customer Service Manager in the automotive quality industry I forever found myself in a position of what I call...switching and morphing. I became quite good at it out of necessity for it was a matter of survival. I believe the same applies here in my career as a REALTOR.
I have many of these "daddy-isms" which I am so thankful my father left with me...more often that not they prove to be quite insightful, maybe even thought provoking, or just give me a little smile or chuckle. My favorite daddy-ism, which I heard almost each time I was to enter a room (with my dad present of course) "Mention her name and you hear the flutter of her wings" (The Angle). It's funny how you find just how much you miss and remember the small things from your parents for I never really thought much about the "daddy-isms" before.
It's time to embrace the change so you are not someone that is left behind....
It's time to wake up now!
