Baptist Road Update

Anyone that lives in Monument or the North End of the Colorado Springs can attest to the fact the I-25 and Baptist Rd. Interchange is in serious need of help. Traffic backing up onto the highway, confusing, serpentine like traffic patterns combined with a pool of drivers that are for the most part new to the area...Yikes!

The BRRTA (Baptist Road Rural Transportation Authority) is close to bidding a new eight lane overpass. The project is estimated to cost between $15 million to $20 million and should be completed early in 2008 to mid 2009. This project will be funded by a 1-cent sales tax charged at businesses within the BRRTA boundaries.

At this point there are a few remaining parcels of land standing in the way. BRRTA is hoping the land owners will donate these properties. If the owners won't donate, the Authority is willing to use eminent domain to seize the property.

Joe, it's a coincidence that you wrote about Baptist Road. I have a closing this evening and have to get off I-25 at Baptist Road. I called the borrower to confirm the directions. I'm supposed to make a right turn on Desiree Drive to get to him. He told me it's closed due to construction. So I have to take a detour. After the experience I had a couple of nights ago, I'm allowing an additional 15 minutes travel time. I'll probably need more.

Leon,

Take hwy 83 to northgate if you can. It's scenic and faster.
