House stalking

Not too long ago, I had a friend and client tell me that he and his wife were "stalking" a house.

Around the corner, in the same subdivision they were in was a house that they loved.  In their case, they were friends with the owners, and joked that when their friends moved, they wanted the house.  It got me thinking... always a dangerous act.

My wife and I have been stalking a house, too.  We don't know the owners.  We just admire it as we drive by.  Every day.  Several times.  OK, the route to my son's daycare goes right by the house, so each time we go to take him or pick him up we drive right by.  There is a beautiful front yard.  We are talking about a golf course quality yard.  I'd have to hire someone to keep me from killing it.  There is also a full basement.  My wife likes that.  But, the draw is the "extra" garage.  If I had to take a guess, I would say it is in the 3,000 square feet range.  Of course there is a three car attached garage, but that would be for my wife's minivan, and some lawn stuff.  The 3,000 sf garage would by my "man pit."  I could spread my automotive projects all over the place.  I would be in heaven.

But, it's too much.  Well, it isn't for sale yet, either.  But, if it was it would be too much.  Maybe by the time the current owner tires of it, we'll be ready to get it... or we will have built a home to fit our needs.  I'm not that patient.

So, who else has stalked a home?  Did you get it?

:oD!!  My husband used to call me "house stalker" and was not surprised at all when I told him I was going into real estate.  YES, we got our house, but I was looking within my means.  I guess I have a self defense mechanism that keeps me from wanting what I can't have.  The pricier homes don't call to me in the same way.

Good luck with yours!

Hi Lane- I may have stalked our house, but it was due to the location, not the house (could more aptly be described as a shoebox really) I too got the house we "stalked" but it was iffy at first. The first day the "for sale" sign went up, it went under contract within 24 hours, and that's when we realized we REALLY wanted the house. After about 4 weeks, the first contract fell through, and we went into contract within 24 hours, and closed within 6 weeks.

Lucky people!  I lost the house I was "stalking" which was only two blocks away....I LOVED it.  Passed by it one day and a SOLD sign was on it...I found out later it sold the day it went on the market!  I guess other people were stalking it as well :)

A photographer I used to work for as an assistant always liked a home in Montana.  He always wondered what it was like inside.  Staying nearby recovering from a surgery, he noticed it for sale.  He contacted the agent, knowing that he couldn't afford it, but really curious what it was like inside.  He bought it, and lives there part of the year now.

Lane...

Yup. I am guilty. But I am not doing it for me. House stalking that is.

I am doing it for one of our Sons. I have my eye on a perfect house for him. Assuming of course I don't build and give him the house I live in.

I have actually put an offer on the house that I am stalking but it was rejected. The man that owns the house now will probably have to foreclose for reasons, that out of courtesy, I shall not mention here.

TLW...ROAR!

I got a call today from a reporter with the New York Times.  He's doing some pre-work on a story about House Stalking and ran across my blog.  Cool.  It seems we are not alone.
