Buying A Home in Fort Myers Florida - Save Money on Home Owner Insurance!

By
Real Estate Agent with Sandals Realty

Recently one of our Fort Myers buyers came back with some wonderful news about saving money on Home Owner Insurance in Fort MyersMr. & Mrs. Buyer had the qualified Home Inspector of their choice provide them with a home inspection.  In addition, we recommended that they also have a Wind Mitigation Inspection.  As a result of that inspection, Mr. & Mrs. Buyer were pleased to find out that they would save approximately $150 in their insurance premium.  This resulted in a reduction in the cost of their monthly mortgage payment!

The Wind Mitigation Inspection they had done for their Fort Myers, FL home verified the construction methods that creates the wind mitigation discounts.  These discounts are based on how the home was built in regards to offering greater protection from wind and hurricane damage.  Good information to know as a Buyer in Cape Coral and Fort Myers.

Needless to say, Mr. and Mrs. Fort Myers Home Buyer were very, very happy with the result, and we were happy for them!

Make sure that the inspector you hire is certified!  You can expect to pay between $75-99 give or take a few dollars.

We cannot refer you to any inspectors, but a good check in the yellow pages, cross referenced with the BBB is a good starting place to look for one.

We will always strive to provide you with excellence and service in your real estate experience!  Covering these SWFL Gulf Side locations:  Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, Bonita, Cape Coral, Estero, Lehigh, Naples.

Very helpful advice for Florida home buyers.  Home owners insurance costs have skyrocketed in the past 5 years.

I can't wait to find out if we have those types of inspectors in Alabama. Who should I call, my insurance agent? I'm on the Gulf Coast so we are dealing with the same issues you are.

I'm glad we don't have hurricanes or many tornadoes up here in Metro Detroit.  But we do have the snow.  Great info for any homeowner down in Florida.

Hi Lenn - Thank you for your comment.  Indeed the high cost of insurance has effected the sale of homes!

Julie - Yes, check with your insurance company.  I know that homes have to meet certain criteria here in Florida in order to qualify.  The home has to meet the standards in the construction for wind mitigation.  I know Alabama gets hurricanes too, I am just not sure if Alabama does the same thing or not.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Joy -- I learned something new today -- makes perfect sense.  Luckily, up here on Lake Erie, our winds aren't that strong.

I wonder if the wind mitigation also works in the Gulf Coast areas?  I'm going to email your link to my daughter (who lives in Biloxi and pays very high premiums!).  Thanks so much Joy.

Brian - Thank you for stopping by and thanks for your comment!

Marla - Brian is right about learning something new everyday, I just learned something new from you!  That is really interesting.

Chris - I am glad that your winds in up in Ohio are not as strong - However, I do know, being a Michigan native that the winds up there are a lot colder = )

Hi Kris - I am from Michigan too!  Lived in Rochester, Lake Orion and Warren.  I hope they have a program like ours in your daughter's state.
