Wordless Wednesday: My Favorite Saguaro

My favorite saguaro

I've resisted the "wordless" thing, but I'm giving in today.  Wednesday, September 16, 2009.  I've resisted because this is a blog, after all.  A web log.  A chronicle of images painted in the mind with words.

Your mind doesn't think in words.  It translates words into images in your brain, and then "sees" and processes the images.

Think of this image as a shortcut for your busy mind.

It's my favorite saguaro.  You'll see it along Golden Gate Road in Saguaro National Park (west.)

What a huge cactus.  Great photo.  I like how Toula made it a Wordless Wednesday in her comment. Thank you for sharing your photo.  Have a great day!

Great photo!  I don't think I've seen a cactus that large.  I love how Toula made it's arms into the "W" for Wordless Wednesday.  Very clever!

Yes, I like what Toula did!

However, I think I shall choose the Saguaro you posted Tuesday as my favorite.

HELLO MIKE!  At night - this beauty would look like an upside down spider to me!  But nothing tops what Toula's sees! -- Gabrielle

Very cool, Mike! I've always found the saguaro fascinating - they grow only about an INCH per year! Amazing. And this one, this shortcut for a busy mind - is exceptionally interesting!

Mike,

After living in Tucson for 32 years, I have driven through the West park once or twice. The thing people need to see is the absolute forest of saguaro cacti. It is cool.

Mike,  Thanks for sharing your photo of that awesome cactus.  I grew up in the semi-arid desert of Southwestern Wyoming with lots of small cacti -- too cold for the big ones.  And I have always enjoyed all of them.

I can't remember seeing a Saguaro with that many arms. It's a rather large one as well. My mother in law lived on a ranch in Cave Creek on 10 acres. She had an old Saguaro she named "Old Grandfather", it reminds me of this one. We are lucky to live in such a unique part of the country.

Robert,

It was in the 60's last night, and it's nice today.  What I remember about NJ is the cold in the wintertime.  That... and being in NJ on 9/11 for a National Sales Meeting for a company I worked with at the time.

Michael,

I like that name, "Old Grandfather."

Gary,

I've spent time in Wyoming, and I liked it.

Patrick,

I've tried to capture the "forest of saguaros" effect with my 28mm lens, but it just doesn't do it justice.  Maybe a better camera with a wider lens?

Debi,

It takes 'em ten years to grow to the size of a tennis ball!

Don,

Didn't recognize you!  Love the new photo.

Gabrielle,

I got a shot of that saguaro at night with a stormy sky, and it DOES look just like a spider.

Karen,

It's an armfull!  LOL

CJ,

You re-did your photo!  I thought you might have changed the color of your dress.  LOL

Karen,

REALLY senior!

Terry,

They're estimated to live to be 200 years old.

Michael,

Toula did the best job, didn't she?

Yvette & Dennis,

I surely agree!

April,

She did a good job with that, didn't she?  Thanks for commenting.

Alexander,

Thanks!

Hi Mike, where's the red fruit and have you ever eaten any? Curious. Just looking at it; I wouldn't trust its directionals either =D Otherwise, it looks like a pretty green cactus to me and a beautiful day in Arizona.

Red fruit of the giant saguaro cactusTeral,

The flowers appear in May, and the fruit in June/July.  By now, all the fruit has fallen off.  It was a beautiful day when I took this shot.  Thanks for commenting.
