Tractors or Houses - Makes No Difference - Rehab Can Turn "Swell" Into "Awesome"

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Executives

Ford 8N Tractors

  • The tractor on the left still rusts away in a field in western Prince William County
  • The tractor at the right is the identical model, but it has been faithfully restored.

The home below in Lorton, Fairfax County VA sat deteriorating for years.  It is owned by a local family who stripped it down to essential "bones" and, as you can see, is giving it new life.

Too often we discard or knock down anything that has lost its' original lustre

  • Both the tractors and house are from the period in America when things were "Swell".
  • However, love and dedication can turn antique tractors and homes into "Awesome"

Karen,  Great post.  I really like the way you are showing that tractors and homes can be restored.  The changes are amazing.  I hope that Ford 8N does get restored.  I remember it from one of your earlier posts.

Well said Karen - I remember years ago living in Maine and finding unbelievable treasures that were in barns that folks were just throwing out.  I still have a Larken desk and honeycomb heater that I restored - 2 things I still treasure....  Here in Raleigh you should see what they do in historic Oakwood with homes - it's amazing!

Karen your point was well illustrated.  I too wished more restoration was done instead of demolition.  This is especially true of once beautiful period homes.

Jennifer  I think restoration is becoming more prevalent - people realize we run the risk of losing an important aspect of our culture  Karen

Hi Karen, It's always a labor of love to have the fortitude to accomplish those projects. I love old tractors!

As a farmers gran-daughter I remember rinding on the wheel fender with my feet propped up on the seat chatting away to my grandfather as plowed the field. Doesn't sound to safe now that I think about it, but I can still see & feel that day so clearly. After all it was only 40 something or so years ago ;)

Hi Karen, Nice to see the restoration.  It's fun to see old tractors, I remember my early years on the farm and the old Farmall tractor....

Karen I am aware your reports on Woodbridge are an integral part of your market strategy to be current on many facts throughout Prince William County. The obvious goal is to provide your clients with the very best possible representation and blog posting is an excellent method and may include posts about other interesting locations in our area
