It's nice to be #1 (SEO from someone who has done it)

SEO is actually becoming more simple with all the search engines being able to detect reciprocal linking and ignoring them. Search engines are actually basing their rankings on good contant and properly designed pages.

This is not to say SEO is simple... Here are the basic steps to proper SEO:

  1. Keyword research
  2. Page design/layout, (with a good menuing system)
  3. Copywriting
  4. Link building.

Yes, #4 is link building... but not the typical reciprocal linking, but good quality one way links.

I think this post will generate a lot of questions... which is a good thing. I will answer these questions in further posts and focus on the topics that get the most questions.

I do know of what I speak... as my website is in the top 5 for many highly competitive search phrases like: orange county luxury real estate, orange county real estate, realtor in orange county ca, orange county mls, homes for sale in orange county california...

Hi Deanna,

Would you please be able to give us some examples of "link building"?

Take care,

The easiest and best way to link build (one-way links) is through testimonials.

Whenever you use a product or service and like it, ask the owner if they would like you to write a testimonial for their product or service to put on their website. Then you supply them with a great testimonial with a link back to your website.

Usually testimonials get good placement on their website... and lookie there... there's a one way link TO your website! :)

Being creative can boost your SERPs.

Link trading is probably the most prevalent myths about SEO. Link building has been around longer than the term SEO, it's the oldest trick in the book and google knows it. Stop wasting your time, and start building one way links. Thanks Deanna.
