The New Economy? Will Work For.....

By
Home Stager with GreatStages Home Staging and Redesign

Remember the stories you used to hear from your grandparents about the hard times during The Great Depression? Mine always spoke of not having cash, but bartering their goods and services to make ends meet.

Chicken

Times are tough in Clark County, but folks are making do and trying to stay positive.

After completing a job today and receiving a check for my services (my normal method of payment!), I was offered a dozen fresh organic eggs from the chickens being raised out in the yard since I gave extra time and tips and the homeowner wanted to thank me! Eggs

I guess that now I can say that I accept Checks, Credit Cards, PayPal and eggs!

Well congratulations - at least you found a homeowner who could afford your services - take the tip in eggs and be happy...unless of course we could fry the chicken

John - You are too funny! Perhaps I should have held out for the chicken. I love barbecued chicken!

I took a boat in lieu of commission one time. I belong to a barter clubs and it is always a better trade.

Charles - My husband would be over the moon if I was paid with a boat! I will have to keep that one in mind.

Love that! Bartering has been around forever and will be here forever. We often take furniture and other items that the homeowner would like to give us (cookies too) when we are done with a job. Often the homeowner wants to express their gratitude and what a wonderful way to do it!

Kym - I love it, too. Getting thanked in such a sweet way brought a smile to my face all day.

Liz - It was a lovely gesture and reminds us all to take the time to do small acts of kindness. Little things like that can be very touching.

Kathy, that's just great! The simplest jesture really shows how much your clients appreciate you. Glad they gave you the eggs and not the hen :)

Kimberly - Thanks! It would have been even worse had it been the rooster. Tough meat, no eggs and lots of noise!

Cute post!!  I like the method of being paid with money and the extra'bonus' barter always makes it worthwhile!

Cathy -  You are right - it was very fun and nice to be the recipient of something so nice.

Kathleen - Yes, my preferred payment method is real money, too. :-) It would be hard to pay the bills if my earnings were in eggs!  I like to give little bonuses with my consultations and it was nice to be appreciated with a little tip!
