- Potential health effects and symptoms associated with mold exposures include allergic reaction, asthma and other respiratory complaints
- There is no practical method to eliminate all molds and mold spores in the indoor environment. Mold is controlled by controlling moisture.
- If mold is a problem in your home or business, eliminate the sources of moisture and get the mold cleaned up.
- Fix the source of the water problem or leak in order to prevent mold.
- Reduce indoor humidity ( to 30 - 60%) in order to help decrease mold growth by : venting bathrooms , dryers and other moisture generating sources properly; using air conditioners and de-humidifiers ; increasing ventilation; and using exhaust fans when cooking , dishwashing and cleaning.
- Clean and dry any damp or wet surfaces and furnishings within 24-48 hours emergency water services
- Clean small amounts of mold off hard surfaces with water and detergent and dry completely.
- Prevent condensation: Reduce the potential for condensation on cold surfaces (i.e. windows, piping, exterior walls, roof or floors) by adding insulation
- In areas where there is a perpetual moisture problem, do not install carpet.
- Molds are found in our natural environment. The problem with molds starts when they are found in excessive amounts in the indoor environment.
