Free alarm system most of us all ready have and don't realize it

A Tip every one should know:

Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. AND IT WORKS. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Just press the panic alarm on your car key chain.

TEST IT! It will go off from most everywhere inside your house whether you park in your car in the driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar or rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. Try yours to make sure it works before you rely on it. Just know that you must press the alarm button again to turn it off. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.

Donna, great idea.  I never thought of it as working as an alarm.  I did accidently set my car alarm off from inside the house once, I know it works.

Great idea, never thought of using my car alarm in that manner.  I guess instead of throwing my keys in the purse I will keep them out and handy.  Thanks again for the tip.

Donna, I was just thinking, It would work when showing properties too -- suddenly don't feel comfortable in a house with a "customer/client" -- just hit the car alarm button.  Neighbors or anyone driving by will surely check to see why the car alarm is going off in front of a house with a For Sale or For Lease sign in front.

Donna, great tip.  In fact, once I used that during an open house.. I had someone walk in... from nowhere. I was in a new development, way in the back, homes under construction all over and it was raining.. I was standing in the front room and I was shocked when someone opened the front door and came in.. no car, I didn't see anyone walk up - but there he was.  Immediately I got the heebeejeebees (not sure how to spell that!) and he started acting strange questions... my car keys were in the pocket of my blazer... I pushed the button and excused myself acting like I'm not sure how that happened... I stayed outside acting like I was on my cell phone until he left.. on foot , walking down the street.   Strange....  but it worked for me...

Catherine,

Scary.... We can never be too careful. I always keep my keys and phone in hand. I have bear spray on my key-chain as well. Great way to combat an uncomfortable situation.

Donna, great idea!  Funny thing is today I accidentally set off my car alarm by going into the trunk while it was active,...I had to go in for my keys,..so embarrassing, and yes I think some of the neighbors looked out to see what was going on!  Thanks again for the suggestion, I'll leave my spare set by the bed!
