Those are some nice old vines and I am sure would make some delicious wine.  I had a bunch of vines in my last yard but they were concords which have limited use to them.

Thanks, Robert! I love talking grape...and you're right, I tasted the Zinfandel today that was made from the vineyard that this vine is a part of and it was spectacular!

I had a bumper crop of grapes in my yard this year.  I haven't tried making wine out of any of them, but the purple ones that were so prolific, look quite similar to those in your picture.  Your picture looks so classic. . .I love it!

That is an old vine with lots of history of making wine. We have some friends that are making wine and checking it twice a day now.

Thanks for your comments, Roy, Myrl, Gary, Charles, Lee & Carol and Judy! :)

Myrl, you're lucky to have such beautiful grapes...we have Chardonnay and having "just" that makes me yearn for other varieties, especially the ones with BIG personality like the Zinfandel! :)

Charles, you're right...Napa is not that far from us. :)

Lee & Carol, it is indeed an old vine and I know of some even older vines pushing 100 years old that still produce. You know when I see them, I'll be ready with my camera...and wine glass!

Judy, Bob and I LOVE to go wine tasting! This vine is in Glen Ellen (Sonoma county) and the name of the winery is "Valley of the Moon". We definitely didn't leave there empty-handed and all of their wine is so fabulous, we had a hard time choosing...so we got 6 bottles! ;)

P.S. The wine that came from these vines is their 2005 Sonoma Valley Estate Old Vine Zinfandel: aromas of ripe blackberry, black pepper and a hint of nutmeg; concentrated berry flavors, spice and vanilla, balance with ample tannins; rich, structured finish.
