Fire is so frightening. It's like a lot of other things in life: When the time comes, the time for preparation is over.
Hope you are fine.
Fire is very frightening. Occasionally we have fires in Florida, these are typically brush fires started by lightening. Hope you are okay?
I hope that all the people in or near the fire were fine. It is such a devestating thing to have happen...
Lisa - Yes...we are fine! Having been through natural disasters before, my family "regroups" as soon as we hear something is up, so we rode this out all together. Thanks for asking!
Sharon - Having moved here to Medford Oregon from Southern California, we're no strangers to wildfires, but "oh my" is right!
Shirley - Thanks for setting me straight :-> - I actually thought I was only fudging a little bit, positing Tuesday night, only to find out it was Monday. Lose track of what day it is sometimes when I work weekends, too!
Ron - Yes, the fire started near our home. Our youngest was out of school yesterday (budget cuts), so I was headed off to an appointment after my husband got home, and realized the fire was headed our direction. By the time I pulled over, canceled my appointments, and turned around to head back home, all the fire trucks had taken up position at the bottom of our street. Comforting to know they were there, but frightening knowing it was necessary!
Tom & Darcy - Everyone's fine (thanks!), and although it's smoky today, the wind has died down and the firefighters are still nearby watching out for flareups while dealing with hot spots.
Jim - The ultimate test, when time for action arrives, eh? We're fine, thanks! Two streets away from the hillside/brush areas affected, and the winds turned the fire away from us.
April - See that? I think of hurricanes in Florida, but not brush fires! This was a grass fire this time, too, and was knocked down before it could become a forest fire. Great work was done by the firefighters, who had to take on two wildfires back to back yesterday. The news reports say the Medford fire did not get any structures, and everyone is fine (thanks!).
Diane - Sounds like that is how things worked out for this fire. The Ashand fire that started earlier in the day than the Medford one got someone's home and is still too close for comfort, but we're hoping the hot spots for both fires will be out soon.
Thank you all for your comments and sentiments!
Karen - Glad to hear all is well with you and yours. Being from Conejo Valley, I'm sure you've seen your fair share of close calls.
We watched helplessly from our office window, and had several listings in that area. What a great miracle that no injuries resulted and that no homes in the Roxy Ann area were bruned down. The fire department did a fantastic job.
Hi Donne - I remember one time as a kid - probably mid 70's - watching the hills all around us in the Conejo Valley on fire, then my asthmatic brother being rushed to the emergency center for oxygen treatment. No fun...
Hi Scott - The firefighters were on that fire so fast, it's been very impressive. I saw the fire trucks cruising the neighborhoods still (we're in Sky Crest) early his morning, watching for flareups, bless their hearts.
Karen I would say so - fire is the scariest of natural disasters in my opinion even though it may not claim as may lives as some others Karen
That is a little to close. I hope that no one was hurt
scary stuff
your friend in Charlottesville Virginia!
Karen - I'm with you. Even coming from earthquake country (Southern California), I have to agree with you. Earthquakes just hit when they hit, so no time to watch & worry. The unpredictability of wind/fire combinations are truly nerve wracking.
Charles - A couple of days later, the smell of the fire fading, and we're moving forward again.
Thank you both for stopping by.
Too close is right....Having lived in NoCAL with frequent fires, these is a very scary photos
Wallace - Northern California has lots of forest/grass lands, too. We don't take these events lightly, do we? Thankfully, the weather changed and all the smoke that has been settled in the Rogue Valley has dissipated. Thanks for stopping by!
