Selling a house can be fun for the kids too!
If your real estate market is anythig like mine, chances are you service families and often children are involved. I have many ways I get the kids involved in the home buying process - here is one of them that I have been doing for a couple of years now.
Selling a home can be stressful for parents - keeping a house clean, getting out for showings, etc. At the listing (or later if the kids aren't around at the listing) I have then children sign a "contract" with me to help mom and dad sell the house. I always have mom & dad's blessing of course first.
This contract consists of putting toys away, doing extra chores for parents, etc. It also may include no complaining when they need to leave for showings. I vary it depending on the age, and what type of help mom & dad may need with the kids. I had one child that had a bad habit of leaving open paint containers out. Her contract was to always put the paint away.
If the kids comply - with mom & dad's input - I reward them. Sometimes its a gift card to the ice cream store, sometimes a toy store or Target gift card, etc. Paint girl got a new set of paints. Its never over the top - just a modest reward that says, thanks - and acknowledges their buy-in to the whole process.
I can not tell you how many parents have thanked me for this - they almost always tell me that the kids are so willing to help when they know they have a contract with me, Mr. Steve. No nagging, no begging - their outside unattached source (me) has motivated them to help mom & dad.
Try it, they'll like it!
Is there anything you do to get the kids involved in the home selling process?
