Dear Kristin,

An exciting victory for animals has been scored! Thanks in large part to your e-mails, letters, and phone calls, the University of California-Irvine has announced that it has replaced the use of rats in cruel classroom neuroscience experiments with sophisticated computer simulations.

During these experiments at the University of California-Irvine, undergraduate students drilled holes into rats' skulls and damaged their brains with chemicals. The rats were killed when the experiments concluded. A PETA complaint prompted a review of the experiment, and the non-animal methods we proposed will now be used instead of animals. Because of this victory, as many as 200 rats per year will be saved from suffering in these classroom experiments.

Although PETA is pleased to have your help in winning this victory for animals in laboratories, there is still more that you can do!

In physiology and biology classroom experiments at Arizona State University (ASU), baby rats are killed, and students remove the small intestine and uterus for experiments.  Frogs also have their brains destroyed when pins are stuck through their skulls. In other experiments, rabbits have holes cut into their chests,  are injected with various drugs, and are then killed.

Please take another step to help animals now! Contact ASU and urge it to follow the lead of the University of California-Irvine and end its use of animals in classroom laboratories.

Thank you for everything that you do for animals!

Sincerely,

Justin Goodman

I am so glad to hear that computer simulations have replaced live animals.  If they know what is going to happen, they should just teach them that instead of replaying it over and over again.

Hi Kristin,

I missed this great news!  Thanks for the post and information! Now other universities and colleges may also follow suit.  Would that not be wonderful! Do end cruel classroom experiments, not only for rats but also dogs, cats, monkeys, apes, pigs, rabbits, etc.  There are thousands of other's who continue live animal experiments in universities & colleges everywhere.  As Toula stated, lots more work to be done!  Again, thank you for posting!  Enjoy your Sunday!

This is awesome Kristin, great job!!!!

Not sure what kind of person could actually do such things to another living creature...the thought of torturing anything makes me sick...I just pulled a moth out of my damp sink a few minutes ago...I know I am a little extreme.

HI Jackie!  I think the same way as you!  I avoid moths if they are in my path when I mow the lawn too!
