Make it happen, there is business out there!!

Do you ever find yourself in a rut? Sometimes it seems like business comes to a stand still, especially in this economy. The best thing you can do is "make it happen" for yourself.

There are so many things you can do to promote yourself that are relatively inexpensive. One of the things I recently did paid off for me. I designed and ordered 1000 great postcards from Vistaprint.com for less than $80. I targeted "For sale by Owners" and rode neighborhoods looking for my prospects. I put a postcard in each box that had a FSBO. I know...lots of stops; chances are nobody's going to call, but what if only 1 did call? Wouldn't the advertising have paid for itself? It worked... I handed out only 100 cards and got 5 clients. All of a sudden I had many projects I was working on. It was all because of good old fashioned, nose to the grind stone, turning up clients by seeking them out myself.

People are starved to be educated on what home staging will do for them. Once you explain the benefits of home staging and the potential it can bring not only the price the house sells for but the return on investment, peoples ears perk up pretty quickly. I have found that people don't mind spending the money for a home stager once they are educated on what home staging can do for them in the sale of their home.

One other great method I use is doing a presentation at the Realtors weekly sales meetings. They love the tips, information and before and after pictures, especially when you attach the D.O.M (Days of Market) which really hits home with the Realtors. Sometimes I won't get any leads other times I am there a couple of extra hours discussing potential clients and how we can best meet their needs. Many times I make a new contact with the Realtor and if we end up working together on a regular basis I will give that Realtor a discounted rate for all the potential clients they send me. Just like any business home staging is about supplying an answer to a problem.

So get out there and shake some trees....the business is there and now more than ever with the market being flooded with homes, people NEED their home to "stand out" among the rest. The way to do that is "Home Staging"!

Hope everyone has a very successful and blessed day!

Jennifer, I recently mailed out about 50 postcards to homes in my neighborhood that were listed with different Realtors and I got nothing, but I just ordered more this week and will try your approach with the FSBO'S. My postcards were FREE actually so I don't have much to lose. I am still fairly new in this business and I am just trying to get name recognition and then hopefully the calls will start rolling in...

Thanks for the ideas!

Great idea about the postcards.  I have not tried that before but I am planning to design a card for my business this weekend.  Thanks for sharing.  I do presentations and workshops at real estate offices and always get new clients.

I've used Vista Print for post cards many times, and although I send them mainly to Realtors, it planting the seeds to business down the road.  I like the idea of FSBO though, they typically need a lot of help and need to get the biggest bang for their buck.

And you're right:  when business seems to slow down or stop, many just throw their hands up and say "oh well" but marketing can NEVER stop, when it's busy OR slow.  Thanks for being a motivator that you can only reap what you sow.

Your Welcome Connie! My background is in marketing and advertising....people to often think "when the market is slow...I can't afford to advertise".....when it's the exact opposite. You NEED to advertise when it slow to "fill" the pipe and pick your business up! Thanks for the comment and glad I could motivate!

Wishing you continued success!

Hi Beverly, Yes! 5 was amazing....mind you they weren't all big accounts..some small consults, but 1 big job and another average...well worth it!!

Don't get me wrong...Realtors are my bread and butter.....they understand the value of home staging and KNOW what a difference it makes...but when times are lean....time to go hunting for the business!

Wishing you the best!
