The Fremont Solstice Parade...a different kind of Parade....

By

I met up with ARDELL and Rhonda Porter (fellow Rainers) yesterday to take a peek (and we got more than an eyeful with the Nude Painted Cyclists!) at the Fremont Solstice Parade and Fair .  None of us had been before and we had a fun time enjoying the weird and wonderful spectacle...what a hoot!  In keeping with Fremont's declaration of being "The Center of the Universe" and it's official Latin slogan:  "de Libertas Quirkas" which loosely means: "Free to be Peculiar" it The Fremont Solstice Parade is one that definitely marches to a different drummer!

The Solstice Cyclists (aka Nude-Painted Cyclists) kicked off the unofficial parade beginning with creative body paint and joyful fun to celebrate the upcoming longest day of the year.

The Fremont Solstice Parade was a wonderful, creative, joyful, and expressive good time for all, both tall and small!  Now, do you feel like you were there?  The Center of the Universe is a little off kilter, and sometimes we all need to get off the straight and narrow and get a little wild!

We  have some real weird people up here in Seattle.  However, it does look like everyone was having a good time.

Oh no -- it looks to me like a lot of people I used to know in San Francisco have found their way to Seattle -- What a great creative event.  I am looking forward to the longest day of the year -- I don't think there will be a parade like that her in NH.  Thanks for the great pictures --

I miss living in Fremont! Back when you could rent an apartment for $600/month and could find on street parking for it LOL

Joan, Seattle's Fremont certainly is a very free-spirited, art oriented, and active community...I would say it has the flavor of certain parts of San Francisco!

Sarah, well there has been a lot of gentrification in Fremont, especially when The Red Door Tavren was moved a block west to make room for PCC and condos above.  So prices and parking spaces have gotten higher and lacking respectively!  Of course that can be said for much of Seattle too!

Really ..well uhh...Weird! Looks like something that would go over well in Austin. But what was the point or purpose?

Hi Danny - In Fremont there needs not be a point, just de Libertas Quirkus!  Okay, there actually was a reason, and that was to celebrate the Solstice, the Longest Day of the Year, which means for us the sky does not get dark until after 9:30 PM and even after 10PM there is still a glow in the sky.  It also is daylight around 5AM, so I've heard....  :  )
