The Taste of Charleston is an opportunity for local restaurants to all get together to showcase a few of their signature dishes while helping to raise money for a few very worthy local charities. It's hosted by the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association and this year will be supported by the Town of Mt. Pleasant. The main event will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2009, 10:30a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant. Proceeds from the "Taste" will benefit the Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center and Charleston County Materials Resource Center. Additionally, the "Taste" will feature the famous "Waiters Wine Race." Neither of us have participated in this race, but I can assure you that it is a ton of fun to watch! There will also be beer and wine tastings, a special Children's Corner, Cooking Demonstrations by some of Charleston's finest chefs and the sounds of a local favorite, East Coast Party Band. "The Taste of Charlestonallows Association Members, on behalf of the restaurant industry, to give back to the community through our many charities and worthwhile causes," said David Miller, 2008 GCRA President and owner of the Kickin' Chicken. To date, the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association has donated over $1,000,000 to local charities. Advance tickets for the 29th "Taste of Charleston" are $10.00. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate for $12.00. Food tickets will be sold in $1.00 increments at the event. Souvenir "Taste" t-shirts will also be available for purchase.
