Who really gets a lead on Facebook or Active Rain. Is it really worth all this blogging?

I read a statement the other day that seemed to make sense:
If you want to create relationships, get involved with social media.
If you want to get a lead, do an open house!
The main advantage, as I see it, is that social media gets your name out there on search engines. More and more often, potential clients do searches to find out about you before deciding whether or not to work with you. So, the advantage may be one you can never measure because you won't know if showing up on the search engine made the difference - to go with you... or with someone else that had more of an online presence.
Let me know if you want to chat by phone....
Marcia,
Very quickly here, in my experience, social networking sites seem to be broken down into two categories:
Work and Play:
Worksites include:
Trulia
Active Rain
Your website.
Your broker's website
Linkedin.
Play sites include:
Facebook.
MySpace
I know there are others but these are the main players. I have done quite well with Trulia and Active Rain, but like anything at all about work. Its blog blog blog, answer questions after questions. If they like what you say they'll call.
Good luck, Mike Luzzo
