Has anyone asked the question, what's the real estate profession coming to? The reason for the question is my personal frustration from dealing with REO agents who ignore the MLS rules as well as the law. I understand that the banks are too big to sue; but the agents of the banks are not.
I predict a backlash against the banks, and eventually class-action law suits. Agents, beware.
Remember, you read it here.
Meanwhile the rumors are starting about the demise of the real estate professional. Eventually all buyers will look at virtual tours and buy homes without setting foot in them. Listing agents will be busy inputting the data and photos. Buyer agents will be busy processing orders. There won't be a need for personal service because the public will be able to find out everything they need from internet sites.
Right. It reminds me of the technology which allows computers to fly airplanes, and no human pilots are needed. I'm sure we're all eager to get on a computer-flown plane with no human pilot. We all know how reliable computers are, since we use them every day. Therefore we don't need humans. Right.
Although we are going through a stressful re-distribution of wealth through massive real estate transfers, we still long for human interaction and personal service. I do not plan to give up representing my clients during this tumultuous time. Buying a house today is like tiptoeing through a mine field, but it can still be successfully done. Some real estate licensees may sacrifice service on the altar of mass production (read, REOs), and some may elevate service to differentiate themselves. It's a personal choice. If my clients want service and up-to-the-minute analysis of the market, they can call on me. Or they can go elsewhere. It's their choice. Stay tuned; the real estate profession is constantly adapting and evolving and there is a spot for everyone.
