I've recieved a lot of flack for teaching that Google does not care about Keyword Meta tags. (You should see some of the emails I've been sent! Whew! Some people take their Google knowledge seriously!)
Well, it seems that Google has gone on record to set the matter straight! Have a look at what is said:

Pretty darn interesting isn't it? This really illustrates how many pretend experts are out there teaching what they "think" is fact. Of course, this does not mean you should leave this area of your website blank, as other search engines may still assign value to this field.
But Google is the primary target here. Also, do not take this as a cue to keyword stuff this area either, as you may still get "slapped" for this spammy approach to SEO.
