Absolutely True Story

This absolutely true story is just for grins. In light of all the heated dialogues I've read recently on Active Rain, I'm happy to share something a little bit lighter.

Two weeks ago, we moved my aunt out of her apartment and into an assisted living facility in the Los Angeles area. She is a single woman who spent her life travelling the world over. She has visited over 125 countries and speaks something like seven languages. She is highly intelligent, but physically she is beginning to have trouble getting around. So, we had all (auntie included) decided that this move would be best.

Now, at this specific facility, there are assigned seats for meals. Apparently, she is at an assigned table with 3 other people-one of which is another elderly woman who has a significant hearing problem. My aunt, who loves to chat and has quite a lot to say, was having trouble communicating with this specific table mate. So, she took it upon herself to bring a pad of paper to the table in order to accommodate the table mate and hopefully be able to successfully converse at meal times.

My aunt, said something to this woman and then wrote it down and passed the paper to the table mate. The table mate looked at the paper and then yelled, What does it say? I do not have my glasses."

Melissa, cute story.

I have a 93 year very active auntie who is also a linguist being fluent in British, Irish, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, South African (the English dialect).  She is our family's most accomplished linguist and we are all very proud of her. :)

Evening Melissa:  Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans or was it that Boy Scout motto thing ?

Can't hear, can't see.  Sounds like someone is neglecting her hearing aids and glasses.

I hope your Aunt enjoys the assisted living thingy.

Funny indeed, I have a friend that can't hear in one ear and we are constantly walking to the other side to get him to listen to us. He will not get a hearing aid for any reason.

Ha, that is a great story, Melissa.  No doubt your aunt will bring reading glasses for her lunch mate for the future!

Melissa, Assigned seating at meals?  I suppose that is so there are no little arguments over who get to sit where...hmmmm. I hope that your aunt (she sounds like a wonderful woman) adapts nicely to her new home.
