Makeover Monday: What Would YOU DO With This Room?

Makeover Monday: Posts will include ideas for redesign and staging makeovers using the unique approach of arranging dollhouse furniture to show working solutions to common problems.

I have attended two really great mini-seminar sessions this past week.  Both were related to the idea of "10 steps to a really great room", and each covered similar topics, such as inspiration pieces, scale, lighting, window coverings, all the normal stuff.

One, however, was more interactive than the other, and allowed audience members to ask specific questions about their space.  The designer gave solid advice, and made a couple of statements that I put away in my bag of tricks, for future use, which is why I attend these things whenever I can!

Today, for Makeover Monday, I have moved the window to the long wall, and added a door to the dollhouse, so that there is more information for the readers, to make the decision on "What would YOU DO with this room?"

The middle column is obviously the empty room, and just below it is how we find most homes, as we arrive for a staging or redesign. All the furniture lining the walls.  One of the designers asked the audience how many had their furniture against the walls...only a few hands went up...she said, "It's OK, no need to be embarassed..." I think many have heard that it is not good to do that, but don't know where to go after they pull the furniture off the walls.

The first place, is to do as in the top middle.  EMPTY THE ROOM. The second place is to add the furniture one piece at a time, like the top right, then #2 and #3 on the left, starting with the biggest piece.  As you can see, I have arranged five options below, that include all of the upholstered pieces.  I'm still not happy...What would YOU DO with this room?

Of course you may have difficulty, as there are no case goods, (bookcases, tables, or other wooden elements) in the room yet, but the upholstered pieces need to be positioned first, (in this case), as they are the largest pieces. If I had an armoire to hold a TV, or an entertainment center, it would have been included as well...put your thinking caps on, and let's see if you come up with the same solution I did...
